One of my favorite designers is Mel of Filles a Maman. Her designs are thoughtful, with a unique flair, and yet the construction remains relatively simple. For children’s clothing that’s exactly what I’m looking for: quick sew with a big impact. Her Petit Oiseau shirt is on tour this week and it is no exception.
I love the look of this top. The flounce across the front takes the volume from a five as a basic top all the way up to a ten for style. It is designed for knits with fold over hems at the sleeves and waist, but the flounce can be made with a woven.
Bean had a cold over the weekend so she wasn’t up for pics, but she LOVES this new shirt. She insisted on wearing it to bed and will be wearing it to school as well.
The size range is from 12M to 14Y and it sews together very quickly. If for some reason you’re not into the flounce, the top can be made without it and you could use a contrast fabric for the upper part instead.
Just beware: that flounce is going to live up to the oiseau name (bird in french) and make your girl want to flap her wings all over the place!
