Season 8 of Project Run & Play is upon us and I couldn’t be more excited about this season. They have centered the entire season on the sew along and the competitors are all past sew along winners. I know all the competitors and have regularly followed more than half of them so it’ll be fun to see how the competition progresses.
Week one’s theme is Winter Wonderland. I had about a billion ideas running through my head about as quickly as Bean is running in the picture above. Then I bought this clearance piece of suede at JoAnn Fabrics and the subtle minty color was the perfect shade for winter. Not too green. Not too blue. Not too white. I used the suede for the pants so they would serve as the focal color of the outfit.
I made the Oliver & S Cozy Winter Hood right before we left for Christmas vacation and used the mint suede as the lining with white microfleece as the main fabric.
The shirt is See Kate Sew’s newly released Pippa Peplum and it’s adorable. I have made a couple of these (I was a tester) in knit and then I got the idea to use quilting cotton for the peplum. You know how I like to mix knits and wovens: the comfort of a knit bodice and sleeves with a fun splash of woven print for the skirt. While I was at it I thought why not throw in some tulle too? Bean is very into tutus lately so she LOVES wearing her “tutu shirt.”
The green knit fabric was a clearanced Old Navy top which I cut up for the bodice and sleeves. The quilting cotton is a favorite from my stash that I’ve used in a few things before. Most notably for Bean’s Christmas PJs last year so it screams winter to me. And the tulle is just some white tulle I had left over in my stash from making my wedding dress years ago.
The Pippa Peplum has enough room around the peplum that there was no change needed in the pattern to accommodate the woven fabric. It fits over the head just fine without needing to stretch at the skirt, but I will say I added a bit of length to the bodice before attaching the skirt. This was mainly so Bean can wear this 3T shirt all winter. I swear this two and a half year old is stretching some of her 3T pants and shirts in length already!
The pants are another pair of Hosh. I just keep going back to that pattern (LouBee Clothing) since it’s so easy to make and the fit is great for Bean. She wears a 3T and they fit just perfectly. Soon I will have to add length to the pattern, but right now it’s just right.
The only real change I made to the pants was adding a bit of width at the ankle so they could fit OVER her boots instead of under like they normally would fit. I also added a button tab that wraps around the back of the ankle to give them a little interest. The idea came from Shwin Designs (*affiliate link) Lovely Rita Skinnies pattern. I adore the style and own the pattern, but I was in a time crunch and since I hadn’t made a pair before I opted to make the Hosh pants (super quick and easy) with a fun mini tab feature. I will revisit those Lovely Ritas soon though!
I’m so pleased with how this look turned out. So often I make pieces that aren’t meant to be worn specifically together and it was fun to think about an entire outfit this time. Of course the peplum and pants can be worn with other things, but they just complement each other so nicely.
And as a mentioned before, Bean really loves that top so I declare this one a win! Don’t forget to take a look at and vote for the designers’ looks this week as well as check out the rest of the sew alongers. I’m really excited about the next four weeks and seeing the results.

Ajaire…this is ADORABLE!! Head to toe! And I love how her Hosh pants fit her!!! How perfect!! When you get a chance, hop over and see the pair I made today and give me some advice ๐ Mine do not look this awesome. And that peplum top is incredibly sweet. I've never felt drawn to the peplum style, but I think the lengthened bodice you did changed that for me…!

Adorable! I love the peplum mixing…great with the tulle. I saw that shirt at old navy and almost bought it to refashion too ๐

I love everything about this – especially that you can tell Bean loves it! There are many similarities to my design you'll see tomorrow. I can think of at least three things in common!

That's an adorable outfit and a bonus that you can wear the pieces separately. I can't believe she's the same age as my tiny miss, hehe.
