Matinee Tour – Knit Peplum Top

This post contains affiliate links.

Have you guys seen the Matinee Dress by Jennuine Design yet?  Today is my stop on the pattern tour and I couldn’t be more excited.  The other Matinee’s I’ve seen so far have been so good.

Matinee Blog Tour

The dress has a plunging back neckline that is accented by a band that wraps all the way around the front.  I love the way it looks and there is so much you could do with just that portion of the pattern.  A cute bow in the back, a flower attached, a feature button: the ideas are endless.  Throw in the peplum/skirt options and I know I’ll be making a few of these for Bean.

I decided to make the peplum version for the tour because Bean is finally coming around to wearing shorts so I thought a cute top would be great to add to her summer wardrobe.  The Matinee Dress is meant to be made in woven fabric, but of course I decided to use a knit.  The bodice is fully lined so I used a thinner jersey knit that would work well in a double layer.

I also made the band half as wide for a skinny belt look.  The neon pink is a fun contrast to the coral and grey skinny stripe and I love how it turned out.  The peplum is also made using the bleach dyed sateen fabric that I’ve been destashing.

Instead of buttons I thought snaps would work well with the jersey and the bit of white on the back makes them stand out which is fun.

This pattern came together really quickly and Jenn’s tutorial is really thorough.  I love a nicely finished garment and even for a jersey shirt, it is fantastic to not have an exposed seams on the inside.  It’s the little things that make me happy, hehe.

Jenn is in the Pattern Workshop course with me and even though she has been designing for awhile, I think the course has stepped up her game.  This pattern is so well constructed and was really a delight to work with.  I know she has some more pattern ideas in her head and I’m super excited about the one she’s working on now, but in the meantime you need to get this pattern.  She’s offering a 20% off discount by using the code matineetour20 in her shop, but act quickly because the discount is only good until the end of the pattern tour which is tomorrow!

There’s a great giveaway going on as a part of the tour as well.  Simply follow the instructions in the rafflecopter below for you change to win.

I've always loved making. At an early age I started cross stitching and sewing and I taught myself to knit and crochet during college. When our seven year old daughter Bean was born I was filled with all sorts of inspiration, so now I find ways to manage my crafty time and treasure those moments. Though sewing is what I'm most passionate about these days, there's something about the portability of yarn crafts and embroidery that keeps drawing me back in.
